Our Story
Born from lived experience and a deep commitment to the visually impaired community, In Plain Sight exists to ensure no one navigates vision loss alone.
Our Mission
To empower individuals and families in the visually impaired community through direct services, meaningful connection, and advocacy — so that every person can live with dignity, independence, and belonging.
Our Vision
A world where vision loss is never a barrier to a full, connected, and thriving life.
What guides us
Our Core Values
Dignity
We honor the inherent worth of every person we serve, meeting them where they are without judgment.
Inclusion
We build spaces where people of every age, background, and ability feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
Empowerment
We believe in the strength of our community. Our role is to provide tools, not dependency.
Community
Connection is at the heart of everything we do — because no one should face vision loss in isolation.

Leadership
Shawn Rodgers
Founder & Executive Director
"When you can't see the path ahead, you need people who will walk beside you. That's what we're here for."
In Plain Sight was born from a personal journey. After witnessing firsthand how isolating and overwhelming vision loss can be — for individuals and their families — our founder recognized a critical gap in community support. Too many people were navigating blindness and low vision without adequate resources, connection, or hope.
What started as a small support network grew into a full-service nonprofit dedicated to the visually impaired community across Milwaukee and beyond. Today, In Plain Sight offers programs in housing stability, workforce development, mental health, and social connection — all designed with and for the people we serve.
